Akshaya Tritiya is a very important day in the Hindu Calendar for the great religious overtones it bears.
It falls on the Tritiya thithi of the Sukla paksha in the Chaitra month as per Tamil calendar and Vaisakha month in other regional calendars. Akshaya Tritiya is a day dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu and his consort Lakshmi.
Akshaya Tritiya is known as ‘Akti’ and‘Akha Teej’ in Chattisgarh and in Gujarat and Rajasthan respectively. It is an important day for the Jains also since they celebrate the Tirthankara Rushabanatha’s breaking continuous fasting one year by drinking sugarcane juice.

It is the birthday of Lord Parasurama of the Dasa Avatars of Lord Vishnu.

It is the day when Sudhama (kuchela) offered aval to Lord Krishna and got a bounty of wealth through the grace of Krishna.
The same day, Pandavas received Akshaya pathra (bowl) from Lord Krishna and thus were able to get unlimited food during their exile.
The day has the credit of Veda Vyasa starting the great Mahabharata with Lord Vinayak writing it.
It is the day Ganges came down upon the earth from heaven.
Akshaya Tritiya is the day when the planets Sun and Moon are in their exalted positions. Their power is entire on this thithi and thus whatever people aspire on this day will be accomplished without fault.
The day’s speciality is that it is devoid of any malefic influence and thus there is no need for picking up a muhurta (auspicious time) for conducting any function on this day.
