Pradosham

Darshan of Rishabaarudar on Pradosham day

Pradosham is the sacred religious time when Lord Shiva revels in dancing on the horns of Nandi bhagavan. It is really auspicious to take a darshan of Lord Shiva on Rishaba vahanam along with Annai Parvathi during Pradosha kaalam.

Pradosham occurs in Thrayodashi thithi in both Shukla paksha and Krishna paksha and thus occurs twice in a month. In all Shiva temples, special abhishekams and poojas are conducted during 4.30 to 6 pm for Lord Shiva on this day. Those who pray to Shiva during this time get relieved of their human bondage and attain mukthi.

Offering milk and honey for Pradosha abhishekam is said to be very beneficial for one to get rid of the blocking karma. Visiting temple during Pradosha kaalam and worshipping Lord Shiva during this time by participating in abhishekam and pooja brings excellent results in life when done continuously. Some perform puja at home including abhishekam for the lingam.

God fulfills the wishes of those who pray to Him during this time and awards them with mukthi.  People offer milk, curd, and honey for anointing Shiva during Pradosham and also offer flowers and garlands for decorating the Lord.
