August 15, 2017, is Aadi Krithigai, dedicated to Lord Muruga.

Aadi Krithigai 2017  is considered very special as it falls on Tuesday, which is an auspicious day for Lord Karthikeya. Lord Muruga is worshipped on the day when the Karthigai nakshatra falls in the month of Aadi.

Aadi Krithigai is more important because Aadi is the first month in the Dakshinayana punyakalam – when the sun god changes his direction from north to south. 

Karthigai is a star among 27 stars and falls on the day when the Moon crosses the Karthigai constellation of six stars once in a month as per lunar calendar.

These six stars are the six Karthigai nymphs who took care of Lord Muruga after he was born out of the third eye of Lord Shiva. They are bestowed immortality by Lord Shiva for the service rendered by them and thus they shine in the sky as a constellation in the name of Karthigai.

Karthigai is considered as the birth day of Lord Muruga and those who observe Karthigai Vrata on this day reap many good things in life Aadi is an auspicious month for worshipping gods and goddesses. Aadi Krithigai Vrata brings bounteous benefits to the devotees of Lord Muruga.
