Significance of Thiruparamkunram, the Favourite Abode of Murugan

The day for Karthigai Vrat in Aippasi falls on November 5, Sunday.

 

Worshipping Lord Murugan on this day and keeping fast fulfills the wishes of the devotees.

 

Lord Murugan has six temples which are known as Arupadaiveedu. Thiruparamkunram is one among these six temples.

 

What are the significant aspects of Thiruparamkunram?

 

It is a cave temple, made out of a rock.

 

The Rajagopuram at the entrance of the temple is   150 feet high. It has 7 tiered structures.

 

The temple was built in the 8th Century by the king Maravarman Sundara Pandian.

 

In Thiruparamkunram temple, Lord Murugan married Devaiyanai, daughter of Indra after He defeated Surapadman. Indra gave his daughter to Murugan as a token of gratitude for restoring his kingdom from Surapadman by destroying the demon.
