Kala Bhairava Jayanthi 2017

Kala Bhairava is the wrathful God created by Lord Shiva. As per the mythology, once there was a heated argument among Lords Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma with regard to who was the superior of all the three. At one point, Brahma insulted Shiva with His words and the enraged Shiva created Kala Bhairava who cut off one head of Brahma. Thus, the five heads of Brahma became four and from then on, He had only four heads. Thus, the Lord Kala Bhairava came into existence. He was the fearful aspect of Lord Shiva.

Because he took off the head of Brahma, Kala Bhairava was afflicted by Brahmahatthi Dosha and he went to Kasi to get rid of this Dosha. That is the reason we find many temples dedicated to Lord Kala Bhairava in Kasi.
